National Civil Rights Museum
Opened in 1991, the National Civil Rights Museum is located within the Lorraine Motel, better known as the site of Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination. The museum revolves around the King Room, where you can view the exact motel room as it was when King Jr.'s murder took place. The Memphis museum strives to educate those about the Civil Rights Movement and how it influenced other global movements for equal rights. Starting from the times of slavery, exhibitions highlight important leaders involved in black freedom and inspiring institutions, events and laws. Read all about the history of the Civil Rights Movement and view photos from the actual museum exhibition on the Web site.
