Rothschild Petersen Patent Model Museum
The U.S. Patent Office was created in 1790, and from then until 1880, anyone applying for a patent was required to submit a working model of the invention. These small versions of the inventions are the focus of the Rothschild Petersen Patent Model Museum.
A selection of about a dozen models is available for viewing, including a pigeon starter (1875) and an artificial leg (1863.) You can also search a database of about 700 models. Want to learn more? Browse the articles section.
