Where did Lewis and Clark begin their journey?
Wood River, Ill., near St. Louis, was the point of departure for Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, who began the first overland expedition to the Northwest in 1804. They reached the Pacific Ocean and returned to Missouri two years later.
