China Dawn of Golden Age
There was a great change in Chinese civilization from 200-750 AD due to the trading success of the Silk Road and the migration of people from northern Asia. Click on one of the five special themes on the Metropolitan Museum of Art web feature to discover the art and culture during the time of the transforming society. The themes, ordered chronologically, include Fall of an Empire; The Coming of the Xianbei and Other Nomads; The Silk Road; North and South: Late 5th - Late 6th Century; and Reunification: Late 6th - 8th Century. Each theme contains a brief description and selected items, which include decorative and religious sculptures, textiles and jewelry.
