Where can I learn about the Underground Railroad?
When slaves escaped from their masters, they often relied on the Underground Railroad, a cooperative network of free blacks, sympathetic whites and Native Americans extending from the South, through the North and into the Western territories. Historians estimate this is how 100,000 of the South's 4 million slaves escaped.
Today, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center educates the public about the historic struggle to abolish human enslavement and secure freedom for everyone.
The museum recently launched this comprehensive site to bring its exhibits, artifacts and other resources to the public three years before its scheduled opening in Cincinnati.
